The meatpacking district is also trendy for nightlife.

Mercato 55 (meatpacking district) is popular in the daytime (can't guarantee that will be the case in March)

Check out Henri Bendel on 5th Ave for shopping-appears in Gossip Girl.

There is a Gossip Girl tour http://screentours.com/tour.php/gossipgirl/

Soho, Nolita, Tribeca, W. Village and LES are all trendy/younger neighborhoods.

Auduchamp, thanks for admitting that mostly tourists stay in hotels, not locals as you originally seemed to suggest (since tourists can't be either trendy or hip). It is so unlike you not to defend such silly statements as the one you made (which I freely admitted you meant for humor -- but underneath we all know you were serious as you despise ALL tourists as if NONE of them had any taste). Congratulations, your admission borders on using common sense! But at least you didn't disappoint me by failing to use your usual total sarcasm towards me. That would have been more than I could take!

Your suggestions as always were spot on, I just wish they could be done without insulting every tourist who ever visits New York as if they were all automatically some kind of white trash. After all isn't the original OP coming as a tourist herself and clearly isn't she exhibiting some modicum of good taste?

Neo

I will send all postings to you first fot your approval.

And besides being the self-appointed patron saint of downtrodden tourists, the lord high exectutioner of hyberole and humor, now you are the clairvoyant who knows my sentimnets. Well your talents ever cease and I thought they were limited.

Of course, I hate all tourists, that is why I spemd hours on these boards giving advice, given countless tours to visiting friends and relatives, complied list of restaurants and food stores that literally took years, wrote fun rules of the subway and the streets, and stop people in the street to ask if they need assistance. And some of my best friends are tourists.

What you are afraid to realize is that dome tourists actually have a sense of humor and do not need your meddling.

As I said, as usual your HELPFUL comments were spot on. And your helpful comments here are always very welcome and appreciated by me as well as by others. I just think more could be done without insulting people at the same time, but carry on with the insults. You're the champ at that. I guess you're right. Some people think insulting others is humorous, so you're in good company there.

Enough.

Just post about New York and let adults make their own decisons.

I agree 100%. I'd just like to see it done without insulting others. But then I wished for World Peace on another thread, and I know that's not going to happen either. Sigh.
