NEW YORK IN OCTOBER .....

A friend and I plan to visit NYC in October 2006, I know it's a way off, but, I read somewhere that October is quite busy in New York City - is there a major holiday event at that time of year, we thought October would be less hectic, does anyone out there know for sure if it is indeed a busy time there, as we will plan it in September or November if that's the case. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks,
Sue

The week after Labor Day through New Years is the busiest time of year for NYC.

Along with major conventions and conferences, you have lots of citywide events in the fall.

November will be busier than October but October will still be very busy.

The NYC Marathon is November 6th and than one event brings over 100,000 extra people into Manhattan.

October is a gorgeous time of year to visit. Expect prices and reservations to dictate that fact.

Sighing, October is my favorite time of year in NY. The colors are wonderful, there is nothing like autumn in New York!
The Opera season begins in the fall, there are art shows and antiques fairs, Halloween Parades (~~)
A wonderful time, I would go then!

October is a great time of year to visit NYC!! Let's face it, the city is "busy" with tourism every month of the year. October is really nice b/c the weather is cooler and the leaves are all changing in Central Park. Halloween Parade in the Village is cool as someone else referenced, but there is a ton to do no matter which month you're in. October is also one of my favorite mths of the year. I would choose late Sept or early/mid October if I were you. You will have a great time either way!!

Thanks to all who have responded so far, sounds like October will be a nice time to go after all, even if it is busy, as someone said it's busy whenever you visit, and the prices of hotels etc., rarely change drastically from what I can tell, but hey it's our 50th and we are going to do it in style, so who cares really. Thanks again.

Sue, October is a PERFECT time to go. Go then and you'll go back as often as money and time allows!

If you love Halloween, downtown is the place to be. The Greenwich Village Halloween Parade is fantastic, and the East Village has a dog Halloween event in the dog run at Tompkins Square Park that is terrific fun for dog lovers.

I attended a big event on the UES during the middle of last October, over the course of a long weekend. Everything was busy, but we never had trouble getting a cab; or eating; or anything else.

If you go from mid October on, Central Park is gorgeous. Have a great time.

Columbus day weekend is huge, the city is crowded, hotel prices will be high. I would avoid that time but I wouldnt go much later in October d/t the weather cooling down.

It's a beautiful time of year. So, is the spring time months such as May and June. I don't thing the city is that much busier in October that you should change your plans.
