New York in March
 

Hi all,
You all seem to give great advice so maybe you can help me out with a really simple query.
I am from Sydney, Australia and I am holidaying in New York in March - specifically the 14th - 19th March.
I was just wondering... I have heard about going ice skating on the lake in Central Park and I as wondering if it is possible in March? I know March is your springtime and no longer winter, but everyone tells me how cold New York is in March and I thought maybe the lake might still be frozen and I could go ice skating?
I would appreciate any advice!

First, the skating is not on a lake but on an ice rink. There are actually 2 in Central Park. Wollman rink is the more popular one. Unfortunately, according to info here,

it closes on March 1. The ice rink in Rockefeller Center may be open til April.

Sorry - winter actually ends on March 21 everywher in the northern hemisphere - that's whay it's still so cold in March (we've had blizzards in NYC in mid March - although its usually more chilly, windy and dreary).

Spring - in terms of weather rather than calendar - is usually more like late April - and many trees don;t leaf until early May.

We were in New York in mid March last year and there were people skating on the ice rink in Rockefeller Center. We stopped and watched a couple of times. Have fun!
