New York hotels in Jan/Feb -- suggestions, please
Hi,
I'm asking for friends who are going to NY for 3 or 4 days in January or February. I'm sure they'd like to say centrally and are hoping for something under $200 a night. Any suggestions? I expect hotel rates will drop by then, yes? And, sorry, that's all the information I have.
Thanks in advance.

In Jan/Feb Priceline should have plenty of inventory - and assuming you're talking aobut a couple who can share a bed they should be able to get a nice 4* property well within their budget. I suggest bidding Central Park South and midtown east or west.
If they want to choose a hotel - Priceline has options for that. Also they might try Quikbook to see what they're offering.
If you give the exact dates people can make recos based on real availability.

Hi nytraveler,
Thanks for the prompt response.
I don't know the exact dates and I'm not even sure they do yet. Also, I don't think Priceline is available in Canada. I've never been too sure about that though.

Priceline is absolutely available in Canada. Read here
http://www.betterbidding.com/index.p...T&f=173&t=503&
If they don't know how to bid, they should spend some time on that website betterbidding and/or biddingfortravel.com
For NYC, I would bid only 4* hotels in any of the areas with the word "midtown" in the name (there are 3 or 4) and they would all be reasonably central and in Jan/Feb they're likely to get a room for $120-150/night (plus tax which is about 14%)
Priceline is especially good for short stays like they're planning.
If bidding still intimidates them, I see some fabulous prices available on the Affinia hotels (a group of all suite hotels) on affinia.com
They could get a studio suite (larger than a regular room with a small kitchen) for under $200/night if they pick the right dates. Eastgate Towers is my least favorite of the group, but still good location and good value.
Travelzoo.com will have lots of specials. Right now, the one that looks best to me is for the Carlton on Madison, a recently renovated hotel not far from the EMpire State building for $179/night plus tax (will come to just over $200/night)
quikbook.com is another good place to look.
While the Applecore hotels are decent budget options, they can do much better (imo) in Jan/Feb.
