NEW YORK HOTELS

Has anyone stayed at the Pennsylvania Hotel, the Wolcott Hotel or the Wellington Hotel in New York City. If so, what did you think of them?
Thanks,
JEAN

I've stayed at one of them, which must remain nameless:

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald...ry/3375167.htm

Avoid the Pennsylvania like the plaque. Old, dirty, ech! Nosiy location, directly across from Madison Sq. Garden and Penn Station/Long Island Railroad. Too many honking car horns and slamming car doors. The Wolcott is reatively new....refurbished from , I believe a former welfare residence. Your best bet is the Wellington at 55th St. and 7th Ave. Great location, can walk to Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Fifth Ave., Carnegie Hall, 57th St., and plenty of great restaurants. The best Greek restaurant in the world is located there, Molyvos.

Hi, Jean!
We were attracted enough by the Wolcott's advertised rates (last year) to do a search on the travel boards... Frommer's had several reports, all really bad. I don't know whether any of those reports are still on that board (might be.. I don't think Frommers gets the "traffic" that this board does!) but if so I would read them carefully before having anything to do with this hotel. Can't tell you about the others.

Jean, I can confidently recommend the Wellington. I have stayed there on many occasions and although it is not a luxury property, my room has always been clean, I have always felt safe, and the staff has always been pleasant to me. The location is very convenient and you can safely walk in the area of the hotel at night.

There are reports on all of them at
http://newyork.citysearch.com/section/hotels_visitors/

I guess part of it depends on what rate you have got - rates are so variable that 'good value' is difficult to define.
