New York Hotel - Why so difficult!
 

Hi all, I have a limited budget, so I am not going to spend 300-infinity on a hotel room. I tried very hard to find a hotel room for about 100 dollars and its sooooo difficult. Is there anything going on around Dec 1st to Dec 4th? Sigh....

B/ of the of year you are going you will never find anything for under 150+. <BR>Check out on eof the travel sights to get an idea what you are up against. How about expedia, travelscape , room finders. turbotrip, reservations.com <BR>GOOD LUCK!!!

Lydia, if you don't mind strictly no-frills accommodation and most likely a shared bath, it can be done! Look up the Murray Hill Inn on E. 30th St. (they have a web site) or the Malibu Studios on Broadway around 110th. I have had friends stay at both multiple times, and they are small rooms, very plain, but clean and safe and in safe neighborhoods, with clean shared baths. Murray Hill Inn has TVs and phones in room, Malibu Studios does not and is cheaper, but both are generally well under $100/night for a room with shared bath.

It's a tough time of year you've picked. I managed to get a room at "On The Ave." in the upper west side for $110, but that was in February which is a bit more off-season. Still, I saw good prices up there around Central Park West, in the upper 70's. Check out the discounters like quikbook.com.

Have you tried Quikbook.com? That's who I booked my latest NYC room through when I couldn't find anything else. We stayed at Park Central and it was over $200. I would at least look there and see if anything is close to your price range.

To (try) to answer your question, you are seeking lodging during the busiest time of the year on the "No. 1 City to Vacation in the U.S." (according to Zagat's latest annual survey). The AVERAGE room price?...$261.00/double. <BR> <BR>I used priceline.com last March and found a weekend rate at the Marriott Financial Center. Obviously, this hotel caters to the Wall Street crowd and the weekends are dead, thus the MUCH lower rates. It is downtown (walking distance to the South Street Seaport, though...) and the closest train stations are not very crowded, so I wouldn't used them late at night. It is next door to Morton's. You could get the rate either calling them directly or try the bidding process. Best of luck!
