New York Hotel Question
 

I've decided to use Priceline in order reserve a hotel room for my upcoming vacation, however, I'm having trouble deciding upon which area to select. My options are Midtown East, Midtown West, Upper Eastside, Upper Midtown - Central Park South.

Which area would be better for first time visitors to NY?

Well I would think Midtown generally would be good, it wouldbe closest to teh tourist attractions. Central Park South, would also be foog. Upper Eastside would be just a bid far from all the attractions. In any case the subway goes to all those areas, so the time difference wouldnt be big. If I were you just look for price.

I think Midtown East would be the best location.

I agree with Greenburg -- Midtown East is the best location for most people.

Upper Midtown are those couple of blocks right below and encompass Central Park South. Probably from around 55th to CPS.

I'm always fascinated by the knee jerk reaction of midtown as the "best" location. And it doesn't matter whether it's your first trip or your 101st. IT DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU WANT TO DO. How old are you? Do you want to be able to walk to restaurants from your hotel? Are you going to the theater a lot? Do you prefer being in a residential neighborhood?

I've said it before, most people want to: see/go to Statue of Liberty, Soho, Greenwich Village, Little Italy, Chinatown, South Street Seaport, WTC site. These are ALL downtown. If you're under 35 & not into theater, you'll prefer downtown.

And on Priceline, what star level you bid for matters.

Sorry to disagree, but I'm under 35, my out-of-town friends are under 35, and they all prefer to base themselves in midtown. Sure, they'll spend alot of time downtown, but in terms of comfort & convenience, one can't beat the tourist mecca that is midtown Manhattan.

(What exact area would you suggest downtown? Too far down and there's nothing after nightfall. Tribeca? Too isolated. SoHo Grand? Too close to Canal, which is a ghost town at night. West/Central/East Village? No hotels.)

Can someone give me the specific page website address or tell me where on Biddingfortravel.com they list the hotels in each zone for NYC?

Go to biddingfortravel.com and then click "New York State - New York City." On the next page, the very first post is the hotel listing: "New York City Hotels List." This breaks it down by zone, offers links to the websites and previous guest reviews.
