New York hotel in two weeks
Hi
We are almost ready for our honeymoon to the East coast but we can't yet decide for the New York hotel. We'll stay in NY 11/11 untill 11/16.At the begginning we thought that paying about $350 a night we could find a nice hotel-a little too nice because of the situation- but we understood that we need at least $450-$500,so with that budget what do you reccomend? It's our first time in NY so we would like a hotel in the center of things.
Thanks in advance
Effie - Nikos

Do you have a travel agent that can pull any strings with any of the hotel chains? Can you find one that can do this?
Unfortunately you've picked the most popular time of year to visit NYC and availability is very limited.
My suggestion is to contact one of the Virtuoso Travel Agencies in Manhattan and ask them for help. They build relationships with the chain hotels and mix at industry functions.
That may be your best bet for a good hotel for $500 per night.
Try this one:

Or run a search on Expedia or Orbitz, just to see what MIGHT be available and then check Tripadvisor.com for reviews.
Be careful - there are some not-so-good, but expensive hotels in NYC. Whatever you do, DO NOT reserve the Hotel Pennsylvania. (It gives me the creeps just to say it!)

FYI -- there is no "center of things" in NYC. Sightseeing, theatre, museums, restaurants, shopping are all spread out in many areas of Manhattan. That being said, many people stay in midtown (West would be theatre district/Times Square, East is a little nicer IMO) and find it convenient to many of the things they want to do. You are usually only a short subway, bus or cab ride wherever you are in Manhattan.
I ran a quick search of Orbitz for your dates and came up with several nice hotels in your price range, including the Muse, the Algonquin, Morgans, and some of the larger hotels like Ritz Battery Park, Inter-Continental Barclay, Roger Williams, Grand Hyatt, etc. Be sure you call again to re-confirm with the hotel and tell the clerk when you call it's your honeymoon. Can't hurt to see if you can be upgraded.
Best wishes to you!

Since it's so close to your arrival date and your budget is limited I dont think you can worry about neighborhood. And in any case, the tourist sights in NYC are spread out over an area more than 8 miles long - so you're going to have to use the subway a lot no matter where you stay.
You might try Quikbook to see if they have anything decent left. Looking downtown or on the upper west side might help - since most tourists seem to want Times Square for some reason.
Also - double check some of the largest hotels (Hiltons, Sheratons, Grand Hyatt) since they sometimes sell blocks of rooms for meetings and have some unused ones returned at the last moment.
You might want to try the affinia group of hotels. These are moderate and get generally good reviews - and show some availability from about $450 up (including tax) for those dates.

Sorry - these are functional - not special - but I think you can make ccancelable reservations. Than would allow you to have a back-up while you see if you can come up with something more special (although, to be honest I doubt it at this point).

You may not get anything 'special' at this point, but here are a few suggestions.
I just went on www.1800nyhotels.com
and there were places within your price range at the Clarioin, Murray Hill Eas, Sheraton Manhattan, and some Affinia hotels, Omni Berkshire - these may not be the ones some would have immediately recommended for honeymoon, but you are going to spend most of your time outside of your room anyway in NYC -
The only one I've evervstayed at of the above is the Sheraton Manhattan - I don't think it's anything special, but it's a safe, it's a decent location to walking to things - there is also a Sheraton Towers diagonally across the street .
Maybe someone here can pipe in as to if the others that were listed with availability are ok for you.
Also, even at the Michelangelo, or any others, always check their special packages, sometimes you can find something there for less on their web.
You can also , if you can not phone, try an email - last time we traveled to another country, I emailed seven hotels on the same email, told them my dates, the reason for our trip, our price range and what we were looking for - and two of them who showed 'no reservations available' on the web, answered me with possibilities, so it might be worth a try.
sometimes the web availability doesn't match with the actual hotel 800 number reservation agent shows and vice versa

I think from your last post your honeymoon also includes going on to DC, Miami and a few other stops, so hopefully you can afind a more romantic, honeymoon type lodging in one of those areas -
if you haven't secured those booking yet, this gives you an idea of how fast good hotels go in major U.S. cities , especially in Nov - Dec holiday time.
