New York Hotel Help
Hi There
We will be in New York on the 19th and 20th of October, and are looking to stay in the Mid Town West area of Manhattan. Can anyone suggest a hotel around US200 per night, our only real request is that it has a private bathroom, 1 double would suffice and it's fine if it's a bit squeezy as we will be out and about most of the time anyway. Have tried priceline but doesn't seem to be much available at the moment. Woule appreicate any suggestions. Regards Lesa |
I haven't stayed at either of these, but the Salisbury and Belvedere get good reviews.

Is there a concert or a convention going on then? Prices seem amazingly high. I even looked at the possibility of priceline bidding and someone else is trying for the same dates in same locations and has been rejected a number of times bidding up to $215.
What I did find was: the Stanford Hotel for $187 (19th) and $194 (20th) the Quality Inn for $204.99 for a standard room. That's a lot for that hotel. The Comfort Inn Midtown which is another budget hotel is $220. The Bedford shows availability at around $200/night on several websites. It's on the eastside though near Grand Central. It's location is very good I think but it does get very mixed reviews on tripadvisor. You could book one of those direct with the hotel (cancelleable) and try bidding on Priceline later. Read reviews of the hotels on tripadvisor.com before making a decision. In your shoes, I'd bite the bullet and go to the Salisbury which shows availability on quikbook at a rate of $232 which seems a bargain for those dates when rooms in New Jersey are asking $250. The hotel's own website shows no avail. though, so I'd make sure quikbook does in fact have the inventory. ;) |
It's peak season and NYC is experiencing occupancy levels of those prior to September 11th. I don't know if there is a specific thing in town but probably a combination.
Ditto on the Salisbury. Also, the Affina hotels usually have good deals. |
Thanks for your help, will definitely look at these options.
Appreciate your advice. Lesa |
Lesa: just out of curiousity, where are you from? I spell my name the same as you and don't find many in the States with Lesa spelled this way...most spell is Lisa.
|
Hi Lesa
You are right I only know one other person that spells our names with an E, I am from Australia, I think my Mum had a disliking for Lisa Minelli so went with an E instead. Cheers Lesa |
Lesa, did you mean Liza Minelli?

Check out the Edison Hotel.

Lesa: Australia and Canada seem to be the places where they use the "e"...don't know of anyone else here in the States that do. My folks just wanted to do something different. Enjoy your trip to NYC! Lesa

Sorry yes did mean Liza.
I have managed to book a room at the Comfort Inn Manhattan through quikbook for USD153 per night which seems quite a good deal. The room has a double bed and a sofa, so will definitely suffice for what we need. I may still try priceline, but I bid previously up to 215 for a 3 star with no luck, so might no be a starter. Thanks for your help Lesa with an E! |
"It's Liza with a z, not Lisa with an s, cause Lisa with an s goes snsssss."
