New York hotel feals for NewYear

Thinking of spending New Year in NY this year, but I'm reckoning it might be a bit expensive because of the air fares at that time of year so trying to price it out.
Does anyone have any suggestions for good hotel deals. Would like to be fairly central(within walking distance of Times Square)
Thanks!

IF you're looking for a room that has views of the TS festivities, that's pricey. But just to find a hotel in NYC for a few nights over New Year's won't be that bad. Why do you need to walk to TS? You'll pay an unnecessary premium for that. Are you thinking of actually going to the madhouse in Times Square on New Year's?

Any hotel with views of Times Square - or even in the immedite vicinity will be BIG $$$ for New Years Eve. Strongly suggest you pick another neighborhood - much better chance of a good deal on upper west side or downtown.

And You don;t want to be anywhere near TS on New Years Eve - it;s anabsolute madhouse. If you want an outdoor celebration - and the weather cooperates (it could be 45 or it could be 10 and snowing) go see the fireworks in Central Park aftrer a nice dinner uptown.

Much more civiized and much less $.

As you might have guessed - I meant Deals and not feals! My touch typing is not too good!
Thanks for the advice. I definitely do not want to be in Times Square after all!

I just found a deal through The Caryle's website for NYE weekend - $600/night, BUT if you use American Express to pay for the room, you get every third night free (up to two nights free). That means for our three night stay, instead of paying $600/night at $1,800, we are paying $400/night at $1,200. Sounds like a great deal to me, especially compared to some of the not nearly as nice hotels for over $500/night.

Oops - The Carlyle, not the Caryle.

Thanks Becca. I will note that for another time. we have decided not to visit at that time of year now. I have been to NY in February and March and both times I was SO cold so think its time for a September visit maybe!
