New York Finger Lakes Area in September
In late September we will be flying into Buffalo and staying in Skaneateles for 4 nites then driving to Toronto.
Would appreciate any suggestions on day trips in the Finger Lakes are - we like museums, attractive views, etc. Also suggestions on dining in Skaneateles.
Finally, how long to drive to Toronto, and what should we expect in weather in late September.
Thanks
John

There are lots of great restaurants. Fine dining- at Mirboux inn where you can dine alongside a beautiful garden. Rosalees is agreat Italian place. Many more are around. You can go for a drive around the wineries and find eateries along the way.

Within a 1 to two hour drive you will find tons to do... for Nature, try Letchworth State Park, known as the "Grand Canyon of the East" with Miles of trails and waterfalls... also consider Watkins Glen Park for a great nature walk...
The Corning Glass Museum, The Kodak Museum, Dozens of small and charming Wineries along the Lakes, Geneva on the Lake... just check I Love NY... finger Lakes region for more...
Your drive to Toronto will be under four hours even with traffic and border stops, and the Weather in September is beautiful... mid 60's to mid 70's, possibly light jacket... welcome and have fun...

I'm not sure why you're flying into Buffalo and then backtracking 2.5 hours to Skaneatles before going to Toronto. It would seem simpler to fly into Syracuse or perhaps Rochester.
The drive from Skaneatles to Toronto should be about four hours, but could be longer depending on the border crossing. From where we live (which is abour 1.5 hours west of Skaneatles) it's about 2.5-3 hours to Toronto. Unfortunately the fast ferry from Rochester has ceased service.
While in Skaneatles, you might want to visit the Prime Outlets in Waterloo, about 40 minutes away. Also, in Canandaigua (about one hour west), a new wine and food exposition center just opened. It has excellent buzz.

Krebs, Dougs Fish Fry & the Sherwood Inn are just 3 of the great places to eat.
You are not far from Syracuse there is a great zoo, a nice mall & museums etc, Ithaca with Cornell & Ithaca College and all the museums and libraries and water falls to explore. Corning and the Glass Factory which is open for tours. Watkins Glen and the race track plus a lots of antique shops. Great wineries. Really its all in what you like. There is something for everyone close by.

Oh, I envy you. I love both Skaneateles and Toronto. Like the previous poster said, you are not far from Syracuse and eating at the Dinosaur BBQ is a must (dinosaurbarbque.com) just make sure you get there before 5:30 if you don't want to wait for table, otherwise you'll wait a while (but it's still worth it). Skaneateles is so pretty..the blue water grill is a good place to eat and Morris' bar and grill has THE best grilled chickn sandwich you'll ever eat. The Finger Lakes has so many roadside retaurants, that you'll not lack for places to eat.Have fun!
