New York during Passover

My 14 year old daughter and I will be travelling during Passover. We are not strictly kosher, but won't eat bread (or pizza crust, etc.) during the holiday. Suggestions of where to eat would be welcome.

Also, any walking tours that might be especially interesting to her. We have been to the Tenement Museum and Ellis Island before.

The good thing about New York is that anything goes. There are of course kosher restaurants that will be open for part of the holiday, but you will find matza showing up on the table in some of the unlikeliest places, too . There are some pretty fancy non-kosher (but Passover sensitive) seders going on.
Places like Jewish (not kosher) delis would be a good bet. There are many salad bars/delis in midtown where you pick ingredients and they will toss a salad for you.
Any specific locations, types of food, prices in mind?

Try searching and also posting this question on Chowhound's Manhattan board. Here's a listing for non kosher seders

There are lots of walking tours of New York, what is your daughter interested in?

When my husband has to travel for business during Passover, he finds that fish or steak restaurants work out pretty well. He can order something broiled, a baked potato with butter, and salad with olive oil/lemon juice for a dressing.

Oh, thanks for these food suggestions. I had totally forgotten about the huge salad bars in NYC! My daughter is interested in history and literature, so those kinds of walking tours would be good. I recall I took one some years ago but I can't remember who led it. Thanks!

There's a great big onion tour of the Lower East Side that deals specifically with the Jewish immigrant experience. They offer tours of all the interesting neighborhoods and historical events. You can look up the schedule at www.bigonion.com.

There are kosher restaurants all over NYC - check out menupages.com (which has 92 choices) to get diner reviews and actual menus.

virtually all the kosher restaurants will be closed for the holiday but almost anywhere will know what you're talking about and accomodate you.
