New York, dinner after the theater
Will be seeing Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at The Imperial Theater at 249 W. 45th Street. The show is at 7PM. Need suggestions for a restaurant near that area for a light dinner after the show.

You have too many options!
Very close is Angus McIndoe, which has a nice menu from light to full meals and is popular with the theatre crowd, but never seems to require booking after the theatre -- only before. It's on three levels, the bar with dining is on the ground level. Joe Allen's on 46th is great for after theatre and again is a nice menu as it includes things like omelets or salads if you'd rather not have a big meal. Very popular and requires a booking a week before you go. You're likely to see actors -- I couldn't begin to list all the people I've seen there after theatre. Sam's and JR's are two rather inexpensive options also very close. Both are more "bar" atmosphere with decent to good food. I could easily become addicted to JR's blue cheese hamburgers. John's Pizza in an old church is another option if you want good pizza. |
Thanks Patrick, You are always such a great help. Joe Allen's might be fun , as we have never gone there. Will make a reservation now. Will keep the other ones in mind for another night.

Unless it's changed, Joe Allen's takes reservations exactly one week before --and no earlier. But it won't hurt to call and find out for sure. You also don't need to tell them a time -- you tell them the show and they know when to book it.
We once were at a show -- THE LIFE -- and Liza Minelli was there. After the show, she got on stage, the composer came out and they and the cast did a good half hour or 45 minutes of entertaining. We didn't want to leave, but we were a little worried about our Joe Allen's reservation. When we finally got there, the hostess immediately said, "well, you've had quite an evening haven't you?" She already knew what had happened. They are really "connected" to the Broadway shows. |
If your tastes lean toward the carniverous (or if you are an Atkins devotee) consider Brazil Brazil at 328 W46 between 8th and 9th. We ate there after a show recently and enjoyed it. It's a south american churrascaria style place, quite reasonably priced, decent and fairly priced wine list and friendly, efficient service.

Love to go to Joe Allens, sharing a burger and martini at the bar! Or a table with friends. You just never know who'll show up. Do love John's Pizza, but more preshow.
