New York City with High School Students?
 

Hi. I am taking a group of High School Students from Atlanta to New York in January. They are Art History students so we want to visit many of the museums along museum mile, we will also try to get to Rockefeller Center, Time Square, Central Park, etc. We are on a tight budget but location is extremely important. If you have some suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Jim H.

Contact the group sales department at the NYC Convention and Visitors Bureau. They will basically source out all of the information for you. They will send to hotels the specs for your group such as price limits, number of people to a room (this is important as it is very common to get a hotel room in NYC that will only sleep two people max), location, comp room requirements (start by asking for one free room night for every twenty booked; don't go higher than one per fifty), and any other requirements. The hotels will then send you proposals and you take it from there. The NYCCVB will also send a RFP (request for proposal) to the various venues you would like to visit including restaurants.

Also, being that it will be in January which is an off peak time to visit, you should have a little leverage with the venues.

I'd be happy to help also. What is your budget per night/per room? I just stopped at a nice looking hotel this afternoon, thinking about this site. It was just off Madison Ave, on the smallish side and the rooms go for under $100 a night.

Also the Travel Inn on 42nd might work as well.

If you want to see some interesting Museums, a MUST SEE would be the Cloisters, it's WAY up on the uppest west side through Ft. Tyron Park and is a true treasure for the city. The views of the Hudson River are spectacular from there as well.

I think that most of the museums in town have special rates for students, so you should save quite a bit there and there are tons of fashish food places as well.

Also some of the broadway shows offer discounted or student rates and some were giving away free tickets to students not long ago.

A fun evening for dinner might be the Stardust on Broadway, all the servers are aspiring singers.
