New York City -- Short Stay
Will be getting off a cruise ship in the Red Hook area and want to spend the day/night seeing some of New York City -- then fly out of Laguardia (spelling?) the next day -- suggestions for hotel that will allow drop off of luggage before checkin time, how to get to hotel, then hotel to airport next day. Lastly, "best" way to get most bang for buck in spending the day/evening in New York. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Watch "On the Town."

Get to LGA early - drop your bags and take a side trip to the Louis Armstrong House!

New York City has arguably more things to see and do than most any other US city.
What kinds of things do you like? Broadway shows, other theater, comedy clubs, music concerts, bars and dance clubs, museums, bus or boat tours, historical attractions, parks, zoos, botanical gardens, strolling around neighborhoods? They're all in NYC. What kind of food do you like? You can find most any type here. Give us some ideas. |
Any hotel will hold your luggage if yu arrive before check-in time.
You need to give us an idea of your budget for us to make recos. You will wanat to stay in Manhattan to see anything (no hotels in Red Hook) and then grab a cab or car service to LGA the next day. As to what to do/see - you must give us some idea of your interests 0r how can we possibly tell you what to do - New York has everything. (Agree about watching On the Town - dated but gives you a very basic idea.) Most popular sights that won;t take ours of waiting time: Top of the Rock Central Park Times Square (for about 30 minutes) Broadway show The Met If you don;t get a good view of the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan skyline on the cruise ship on the way in then take a brief ride - probably the free Staten Iland ferry is the easiest - runs 24/7 so you can do it late or early. |

If you're 1 or 2, consider bidding for a hotel room on Priceline. Stick with 4* hotels. If you don't know about Priceline, read up on betterbidding.com and check their win calendar to see what other people have paid/won for your date. If you have an idea of what you want to see, let us know. Without some idea of that or your interests it's hard to advise. If you're interested in seeing a Broadway show, use discounts on the left column of broadwaybox.com (what night of the week is your visit?) |
Wow thanks, OK we are a party of two, my husband and I, want to do the major "tourist" things -- water tour?, major sights. Will absolutely be back to New York in November to take in Parade and Christmas decor/events on U.S. Thanksgiving date range, so can do other more resident/local activities and areas then. Getting off the ship early morning on Thursday, May 27 and will fly home to Toronto area on the Friday late afternoon. So a cab from cruise terminal to a hotel, hotel in what "central" area should we look at?. Understand there are hop on and off tours -- good idea? Hotel to airport do taxis have set rates or is there another way to get there? Much appreciated!

others have great ideas--if i had 1 day in NYC,id stay on Upper East side (i always stay at Courtyard Marriott)--its close to subways, all directions, and quick access to many sights, like Rockfeller center, madison ave,St Pats, radio City, the Met etc. My one thing id want to see would be the Top of the Rock--it doesn take long, but the views from there are incredible--Empire State isnt worth the trouble.Whatever you do, youll love it.If you do stay at he Marriott make sure to get a great bagel across the street for breakfast

When my fiance and I traveled to New York we booked our hotel through http://www.newyorkhotelsuites.com and we were very pleased with our accommodations. As far as seeing as much as possible... well New York City is a huge city with so much to see. We were there for a week and still didn't see everything we wanted to see. I would recommend making a list of the places you would like to see and then finding a hotel that is centrally located to as much of it as possible. That will help you save time getting there.
