New York City- Our Lady's Crown will be open once again!!!!
Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar just announced on the Today Show that the Crown of the Statue of Liberty will again be open to the public On July 4th, this summer!
I live here, but haven't been up there since I was a little girl. I can't wait to climb that tiny spiral staircase again..... |
Very glad to hear that it will be open again, but I'll leave climbing the stairs to others. ;-)

When my son was about 7, he went though a phase of being fascinated with the Statue of Liberty. We were visiting my parents in NY, and I went with him, my mother, her friend, and the friend's great nephew. The old ladies (younger than I am not) sat and visited while I walked up with the boys. When we got down, they wanted to know if we could do it again! No, once a day is my limit. My mother, age 86, remembers when you could go up into the torch.

I remember going up into the crown as a small child. the staircase at the top is narrow - and the climb is for people with a lot of energy - or used to climbing stairs for exercise.
|
The showed in the news this morning, probably on NBC. Don't remember exactly which news channel.
|
Bella; I caught that too...did you see the first part where
the newsfolks were coming over on a fast boat & were talking to the folks on World Yacht? I didn't get that whole scene. Will be great for folks coming in to visit...new place to take out-of-towners. |
I still maintain that the SOL was created to be placed in the harbor to greet visitors and newly arriving immigrants who see it from the deck of their ships. That is the thrilling sight. Crawling round to get to the top - I don't get it.
|
I climbed it with my dad when I was a little girl, and I still remember the thrill of getting to the top.
