New York City Marrakech Hotel--condition and neighborhood?

This hotel has good rates and says it is newly remodeled. The location is 103 Street and Broadway (2688 Broadway)
Does anyone have experience with the hotel? How is the neighborhood in terms of safety?
We will be visiting NY this summer and looking for a reasonably priced hotel. Thanks.

Know nothing about this hotel. It isn;t listed on tripadvisor and I can't find a web site. How did you hear of it - and do you have a web address?

The neighborhood is perfectly safe (I live about half a mile away) - but like much of the upper west side is VERY diverse in every way - income, ethnicity, gender orientation etc. There are public housing projects within a couple of blocks - and also coops worth more than a million $. The area is completely residential - with ground floor shops and restaurants - lots of restaurants, many inexpensive and good - and is about 10 blocks south of Columbia University.

If you are used to center cities you will be fine. Some people used only to suburban areas might be put off by some of the street life.

It's certainly not a typical tourist location. What is your budget?

It's listed under Malibu Hotel Broadway in tripadvisor. The comments for the most part aren't very good. One mentions the property is listed under several names, Marrakech being one of them.

The hotel Marrakech is mentioned in an email service that Budget Traveler provides (May 11 email).
Price at $129-$149 seems awfully good for NY, which is why I am curious as to condition. Budget Traveler says it is newly remodeled.
Can anyone confirm?

some of the posts on tripadvisor are recent.

I don't know if this hotel has shared or private baths, but if you don't mind shared, check out the Larchmont Hotel. It's in the heart of Greenwich Village, near several subway lines, many great restaurants, shops and nightlife. It's on a lovely residential street.

I did check Tripadvisor under Malibu.
Wow! We are middle aged and like a decent bed and quiet.
I see why rates were so reasonable---and why another name is used!!
So much for Budget Travel advice--at least in this case.

If it's just 2 of you, you should consider priceline. You should be able to get 1 3 or maybe even 4* hotel in that price range.

Priceline is an excellent suggestion. Internet "sale" prices for NY hotels seem to be in the $250-300 range. Much higher than when we were there two years ago!!
