New York City Hotels

I am intereasted to hear from those who have stayed in multiple New York City aka Manhattan hotels which hotel would you most recommend and why? There are so many to choose from and would love advice on this, especially for the fall coming up.

A lot depends on your budget, # of beds needed, amenities wanted and dates...

I've stayed in many but I guess my all time favorite for location is the Lucerne (near Central Park, the Natural History Museum, has Room Service and near subway). When I am going for the theater and nothing else, then I prefer The Muse since I can walk to the theaters and I want to have Room Service. If I want something also convenient to theaters but with less amenities then I stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Times Square.

If you want east access to taxis, don't stay near the Port Authority.

Budget is the best way to narrow down the enormous selection in NYC. My personal favorite hotel was the Royalton, for decor, service and location. I got a good rate through Jetsetter.

Agree you must give us a specific nightly budget, number of people and an idea when you will be here. We are heading into high season which means prices will only go up from now until just before Christmas.

Also It would help if you tell us what you are looking for - basic tourist, business, luxury, cheap and cheerful?

Price is the most important consideration, location second.

The place to avoid (in my opinion) is Times Square and its traffic, especially in the busy fall tourist season. But a lot of tourists like that area because of the concentration of hotels and touristy attractions.

But the recommendations are going to be different if you want to pay $1200 a night or $400 a night. If you want to pay less, you might be out of luck in the fall. And it will matter if you only want to use taxis or prefer the subway. It will differ if you have kids or not.
