New York City hotel- Union Square area?

I am going to be in the Union Square area and am looking for a hotel near there- E 11th Ave and Broadway. I'm not familiar with the area and have been looking on different websites. The only one I've found so far is the W- Union Square but it's a bit pricey. Any suggestions??

Thanks!

Check out the Larchmont. If it's still a hotel it's pleasant and inexpensive - shared bathrooms.

Also Washington Square Hotel is not far from there.

Also Gramercy Park Hotel, which is probably expensive now.

The address you are looking for would be E 11 Street (not Avenue) and Broadway, and there are not alot of hotels in that area, in fact not alot in that part of town.

You might check www.hotels.com for suggestions, there are a couple of hotels not far (3rd Ave and 24th St and 14th and 1st Ave) and both are certainly walkable or bus/cab.

The W Hotel is closest to where you are looking.

Carol - In NYC watch for St and Ave very closely. They;'re completely different things. Streets are local, usually one lane, one-way often residential and run across the island - so 1.5 miles at best. 11th St is quite far downtown.

Avenues are major multi-lane roads running the entire length of the island (like 10 miles) and usually much more business oriented (from upscale shopping to million dollar apartments as on Fifth Avenue) to body shops, gas stations and car dealerships (11th Avenue).

Very different parts of the city.

There are few hotels in that are, and I think thy've all been mentioned already. Union Square is very easy to get to bu publuic transportation, so there are many areas that can work out well. Hotels in the Murray Hill Grammercy, area would be fairly close and a very quick sunway ride. Chelsea would be fairly convenient a well, there's a four points SHeraton there, and a few others.

There's a Ramada hotel on Lexington Avenue at about 30th Street. It might be a decent mid-priced alternative. Any hotel in the Murray Hill area will do for you. The Affinia Dumont is nice but probably out of your range. There's a direct subway line (the 6) from Murray Hill right down to Union Square, but there are few hotels downtown.

There is also an inexpensive hotel called the Union Square Inn on east 14th Street (next door to an NYU dorm, as fate would have it). You should also look at that; it has a web site.
