The Warwick is great. Excellent location. Is sometimes available on Priceline. Prices usually very fair though.

FORGOT TO MENTION-SUPER 8 had a substantial continental breakfast included in their price (we paid less tha 110/night, AAA rate). Cereal, fruit, bagels, muffins, beverages, etc.

Someone else mentioned The Roosevelt, which is usually where we stay. Good mix of location, 2 doubles beds in a room, and a bit nicer than Super 8. However, I havent seen many specials there during our travel plans recently and the lowest price I've ever gotten there was not close to the price I got at Super 8. The Roosevelt has a beautiful lobby.

I also stayed at the Super 8 this year and thought it was great. Don't let the name Super 8 deceive you, the rooms are just as big if not bigger than alot of New York City hotels at a way better price than most. The location is excellent also. Unless you are after something luxurious, I think the Super 8 is comparable to most rooms in most other hotels, good bang for your buck.

Thank you all for the helpful suggestions. After spending more time than ever before researching for a hotel...I found out that this fall: a Hotel in NYC is either all booked up (Belevedere, etc.)or $$. I was happy to get Holiday Inn Midtown/57th (10/16-18th)for just under $200.00 a nite AAA rate plus tax. I did use the AAA "H413 code" for Amtrak and that saved me $
