New York City Hotel
 

I'm traveling with my 70 year old, very energetic mother and my 17 year old daughter. We've been to New York City before, just the three of us but didn't very much like our hotel. We'd like to stay at a quaint, upscale hotel, not too pricey that's not so much like a convention center. We love going to musicals every night of our stay and love upscale restaurants so any suggestions would be appreciated. This trip would be from Thursday-Monday sometime in July. Any help would be appreciated.

Well - upscale hotel and not too pricey don't really go together. And with 3 people you can't do Priceline.

So how about telling us what your budget is and how upscale you expect the hotel to be?

(The Affinia group of hotels is moderately priced, all suite so good for 3 people, and gets reasonably good reviews. Perhaps you shold look at those prices and see if they ar upscale enough for you. If you want really upscale - like Mandarin Oriental or similar - you're looking at $600 per night and up.)

Sorry.. I didn't mean really upscale. We stay at the Ritz every once and awhile but the ones in New York are too pricey for us. We just like a nice, clean hotel. Up to like maybe $450 a night.

There are some excellent specials right now on travelzoo.com The Rihga Royal would be ideal for the 3 of you. The Mansfield is also good if you can get a room with 2 beds on that special. Omni Bershire is lovely too and the Shoreham would also be terrific.

The Millenium UN Plaza is a lovely hotel but a trek from the theaters. Assume you realize 2 of you will have to share a bed.

$450 is generous at that time. The Sofitel would work.

I agree that the Rhiga Royal is a good choice as it is a suite hotel.

The Omni Berkshire is also lovely.

That's certainly a better rate than I found earlier for the Rihga. Anyone know how the remodeling is going?

For restaurants it's easier if you tell us what sort of food, what price, location etc. NYC is huge with thousands of restaurants. If you do a search here you'll also find loads of info. If you stay at the Rihga recos would be different than if you stay at the Sofitel or the Omni Berkshire. So select a hotel first and tell us what kind of food you all like.
