New York city, florida holiday tips
 

Hi just wondering if anyone can help..

We are looking at heading to New York this coming December around the 26th for approx. 3 weeks. Just wondering if anyone can suggest how long would be best to stay in New York - we have two kids aged 12 & 15. This will be our first trip to the US. Would you suggest we travel (drive, Train or fly) to say Chicago, Florida ect...Any suggestions on itineries. We are seasoned travellers so are ok to transfer, drive ect if needed. Ideally we want to hit Disneyworld at some point in the journey. Any help or itinerary tips would be appreciated.

Well it would help to know what your interests are.

Also you are coming to the northeast in midwinter - when it will be cold and likely snowy - so while there's a lot to do indoors you can't count on a lot to do outdoors unless you are planning to go skiing in Vermont

You could do a trip down the east coast - taking the train from NYC (5 days) to DC (4 to 5 days) and from there consider renting a car (depending on weather). You might stop at Colonial Williamsburg (brilliant) then Savannah or Charleston and then head for FL.

As nytraveler has said, what are your interests? This is the key. DC has great museums, but I don't know how this will go over with the kids. Williamsburg, Charleston, Savannah and St. Augustine have tons of history and are each worth a stop, time permitting. If your end goal is to visit Walt Disney World, be aware that it is <u>huge</u> and multiple days are needed to see everything (not to mention the other parks like Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure and SeaWorld). The parks in Orlando could easily consume 7-10 days if you want.

I don't quite get how long your total visit to the US will be. More info= better answers.

It is not good to drive to Chicago in January. It may be okay to drive to Florida, but it would be better to take the train or bus as far as Washington, DC, and drive from there, sightseeing on the way

January is time to migrate south. Head to Dizzyworld and FL, maybe NOLA if it suits you. Chicago would be all parkas and frost bite.
