New York City Broadway Show???

Can't decide between Rent, Chicago, and The Producers! Actually open to other suggestions as well. Coming into the city for the weekend, just the girls, for fun and some shopping. Wicked tickets would be great but way to expensive. Have seen Hairspray, Mama Mia, and 42nd Street. Afraid Rent is too serious???? Any suggestions?

I say go for The Producers. Lots of laughs and splashy production numbers as well.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is another fun possibility and there are discount codes on Playbill and Broadwaybox.

Thanks Patrick! I did find Wicked tickets for $100-$140 but for the last few rows in the mezz. RMEZZ row J?? Any thoughts???

Actually row J is the third row of the seven row second mezzanine section. Are they sort of center (101-118) center section or lower numbers like 5 and 7 or 6 and 8? Seats 33 and 34 are against the wall on opposite sides of the house.

Those are kind far back for me (I like close) -- but I think they'd be fine for Wicked, where you want to get a full panorama.

You might just want to check to be sure John Lithgow is back in DRS. Last I read, he was on a break until sometime in September (just can't remember the exact date).

Check into Avenue Q..it's the reason for our first trip to NYC...last August..it was fabulous..adult Sesame Street-like puppets...all of the actors had worked on SS at one time or another..I will go back just for that play..we saw Wicked the next night..should have seen it first, cuz after Avenue Q, it just didn't have the luster!

seetheworld Sep 1st, 2005 03:20 PM

I loved Avenue Q - but I guess I neglected to tell my DH about the puppets, lol. He seemed a bit perplexed at first, but enjoyed it very much. :)

I also loved Avenue Q. If you haven't seem the Producers, it is worth seeing. Rent is a bit dated and the actual production is not that impressive. Chicago is okay, but I wouldn't choose it over The Producers or Avenue Q.

Thanks for all the replies! It sure does help! I will look into Avenue Q!
I'm a little hesitant about the Wicked tickets that I found, I'm not familiar with the theater and don't know how far away they really are!

John Lithgow is definitely back in Dirty Rotten- I saw it on Friday, and it's hilarious!

Hairspray would be lots of fun for a girls' weekend out as well, if you haven't already seen it. I would definitely recommend looking into that one.

Enjoy! :)

Your worries about Rent are right - it's to serious and not well performed in my mind. Avenue Q is a great show, but I wouldn't give up on Wicked just yet.
Check out http://www.broadwaybox.com they offer great discounts on many shows and they recently started to offer discounts for premium tickets to sold out shows like wicked, so you might be able to get better tickets at a better price.

Don't get your hopes up for finding a bargain ticket for Wicked on the Broadwaybox website. Sure, they may be selling for less than the original PREMIUM price, but the tickets for that show sold there are a lot more than the box office prices!

Wicked!!!! Whatever you do, don't waste time or money on Sweet Charity. Ugh.

Seeing the Producers on Sunday!

I may have missed out on Wicked, but I'm thrilled I was able to get tickets for The Odd Couple in February!

Whatever you see, have a great time!

Avella Sep 3rd, 2005 07:17 AM

We decided on Avenue Q! Thanks for all the suggestions! We didn't even consider it a first!

HowardR Sep 3rd, 2005 08:18 AM

Excellent choice, Avella!

Great choice! Enjoy Avenue Q :)

seetheworld, congrats on The Odd Couple tickets- what luck!

does "Avenue Q" have lots of dialogue, jokes and play on words?
( am looking again for another musical for non-english speakers).

we saw "movin out".. and have not heard of "avenue Q"'s content.

any thoughts?
