My husband and I have two nights in New York City. Looking for suggestions for restaurants that have great wine and great food! Suggestions? Also deciding on a broadway show... looking at "Promises, Promises" or "A Little Night Music". Any suggestions?

It would help to have a budget on the restaurant (there are hundreds that would fit your request) and know whether you're thinking of this meal for the same night as the theater (in which case it should be near the theater) or the other night which is what I'd recommend. And btw, what kind of food?

Starrs saw Promises, Promises and seemed to like it well enough.

While we were in NYC, we found tons of delicious, affordable dining options on 9th Avenue. Uncle Nick's and Marseilles were two of our favorites.

I fyou really want great wine and food (not justgood)there are a lot of choices - but be prepared for $300 per couple. Does that fit your bduget - or are you looking for something more moderate? Also, what cuisines do you like/dislike?

Heard Promises Promises was not great from someone I trust - but haven;t see it myself.

From this thread, I got word of Aldea. We went there and chose the 7-course tasting menu with matching wines. It was excellent and reasonably priced (regarding the quality).

If you like seafood, try Ed's Chowder House. We had there oysters and perfectly grilled lobster, at just $18 (the lobster). The total check was a bargain.

I enjoyed "A Little Night Music" a lto. It starts a little slow, but picks up later in the first act. I thought Catherine Zeta Jones was really good, even though her voice wasn't really up to singing "Send in the Clowns".

The night we went to the show we ate at Bar Americaine and thought they had very good food, and an excellent bar. And quite convenient to the theater.

My wife and I had a great dinner last week at Extra Virgin on West 4th at Perry Street. They only take reservations for parties of six, but we didn't have a problem getting a table at 7 for 2. If you walk around the block on Hudson Street, really good cocktail lounge called Employees Only.

The food at Extra Virgin is Mediterranean. We had a good bottle of Roija that was $40. Perfectly fine. If you want to blow the budget on wine, plenty of options in NY.

Dinner for two with wine was $150, which include the tip.

If you're looking for a classic old world French place, then La Grenouille is still a nice option. One of the best looking rooms in New York. Not the height of gastronmic invention, but still solid and still at the top of any list of romantic dining options. Your wine options there will run to the very expensive.

If looking for a place to grab a couple of nice glasses of wine and some light appetizers, the outdoor tables at Morrel's wine bar in Rock Center is a good option.
