Hi, I will be at the Marriot on E 92nd St and would like to know of some good reasonably priced restaurants walking distance from the hotel. Someplace where I can get a good meal THANKS! (no chinese or Asian food please)

There's a wonderful bistro called Pascalou at 1308 Madison Ave (92 & 93). It's listed as french, but I would call the food eclectic. It is very, very small, but charming and has a strong neighborhood following. A reservation is a good idea.

There are sooo many restaurants in that area. Just walk out and you'll easily find something you like.

Pio Pio is a popular chicken place (Peruvian) near the hotel..1st Avenue between 90th and 91st Street.

I second pio pio. Exactly what I was thinking. Love the green sauce that comes with the chickens. Yummy!

One of New York's best "new" restaurants is Sfoglia, on the corner of Lex & 92nd.

It's more expensive than Pio Pio certainly, but Sfoglia is worth every penny.

I second gekko's recommendation of Sfoglia. But, it is not a moderately priced restaurant and because of it's small size, it is very difficult to get a reservation.

Gekko - if you like Sfoglia, have you tried Spigolo (on 2nd and 81st)? I like it even better than Sfoglia.

Oh yes, I've been a regular at Spigolo since Scott & Heather opened it.

I think of Spigolo as a spot for excellent pasta, and Sfoglia as the place for Ron's chicken al mattone.

Indeed, reservations are tough at Sfloglia. Even the bar seats are reserved!

You'll find zillions of great neighborhood restaurants on 2nd Ave south of 92nd Street. Just walk and check out the menus.

A few examples ... Cafe d'Alsace ... Josie's ... Bid Daddy's Diner ... CiaoBella ... Cilantro ... Cinco de Mayo ... Heidelberg (authentic German) ... Jasmine (Thai) ... Noodles 28 ... etc.

thanks for that list. I think I am leaning towards the German restaurant. and maybe breakfast at Big Daddy's Diner.

Can you recommend a good Italian restaurant in the area of E 92nd?

I will be visiting NYC once a week so I figure I might as well eat well!

Also, what else is good for breakfast?

Spigolo is excellent, corner of 2nd & 81st across the street from the first Starbucks to open in New York.

Lots of good suggetions here.

My SIL who lives on the UES, likes this little place called Rughetta, on 85th between 1st and 2nd. There is also Vespa, which isn't bad on 2nd Avenue between 84th and 85th.

When I lived up there (in a previous century) I LOVED the Heidelberg and the late, lamented Mocca and the Ideal Restaurant. For good pastries, coffee and sandwiches, if Yura Cafe on 91st and and 3rd is still there, check it out.

For breakfast/brunch, Sarabeth's on E 92nd & Madison is a great choice. The omelettes and baked goods are very tasty!

The Starbucks with two floors was the first to open in New York? Get outta here. I love that store. The second floor especially.

Is there any hope of getting a table as a walk in during the week, let's say about 6pm??

Firenze in the 80's is good. Don't know why you've selected that hotel, but unless you need to be in that location, there are far more convenient hotel options. That one is a long walk to the nearest subway.

someone mentioned a restuarant near the Heidelberg-- Rugheta? that looks reasonably priced..Dont mind paying for a good meal but dont want to go overboard. The hotel is a good location for me- right near fdr to leave the city- and my business dealings are nearby-- im only interested in going half a mile walking distance.. Here is another question---if you are on East 66th street and want to get on the FDR NORTH- what is the best way to go? go on first avenue and drive till 92 and take a right??? any better way? traffic on first ave today was hell, that was 3ish
