New York City - Which airport fo fly into, staying at times square

I am planing a trip to New York City for late January 2008 and am planning on staying in the Times Square area. The flights that I have been looking for fly into JFK or La Guardia. Looking on a map it seems that it would be easier to fly into La Guardia (at least distance wise). Is this a correct assumption? Please fill me in. Maybe travel is easier from one airport over the other?

So many factors to consider.....the airline, time of day, construction etc etc,

I used to love Newark, but now with the work on the tunnel uhhh.....so I am guessing La Guardia has been better with the traffic. But you need to check your airline for on time arr/dep from there....with american it seems that 9 out 10 times they are late....really late!

Yes, La Guardia is much closer to where you will be going than JFK.

I chose La Guardia because it is closer in, but had the fare been substantially less (factoring in a more expensive cab ride in), I'd have flown into JFK. Like someone else said, lots of factors.

How many are you and do you have a very strict budget?

LGA is closest to the city (but tends to have the most delays) and cab would be about $35. Shuttle bus is about $15 plus a walk from Port Authority to your hotel.

JFK and EWR have better public transit options - but cost much more by cab.

In total $ - you're probably better off just using whichever airport you can get cheapest tickets.
