new york - best plays
Hello
Once again travelling to New york in october. We like plays better than musicals.Would you have any suggestions? We will arrive the 3rd and stay till the 25th of october. Thanks for your yearly great advice. |
We saw Race and thought it was excellent.
Haven't looked at what's still playing, but Red won the Tony this year for best play and Fences won for best revival. |
Unfortunately Race will end august 21 and Red and Fences are not showing anymore. They have many plays that will begin in the fall. Any recomendations?
Thanks |
"Time Stands Still" with Laura Linney got raves last spring so they're bringing it back this fall. Official opening is beginning of Oct. but there are also preview performances.
Driving Miss Daisy should be wonderful with James EArl Jones. http://www.playbill.com/events/event...Golden-Theatre A Live in the Theater also looks good. http://www.playbill.com/events/event...enfeld-Theatre Merchant of Venice with Al Pacino will be a hot ticket. http://www.playbill.com/events/event...dhurst-Theatre |
Consider joining TDF for great theater bargains: http://www.tdf.org/TDF_Article.aspx?id=285&do=v

Next to Normal has music but somehow I wouldnt call it a musical. It's also heart-rending.
|
Yes, Next to Normal, though it is mostly sung, has a more dramatic punch than most plays without music.
La Cage aux Folles is a likable musical. It is touching and loads of fun. HTTY |
Put Driving Miss Daisy, starring Vanessa Redgrave and James Earl Jones, at the top of your list.
|
I know you like plays better but I adored La Cage Aux Folles! Our Town is off Broadway and was reccommended here, but we missed it (sold out when we could go).
