new york best plays

Hello
Once again getting ready for our two week yearly visit to New York. If not for the prices we would go to the theater every day, but we have to be selective and make decisions about what to see.
So we are again asking your advice about new plays and also musicals. We have seen last year August, Osage County in the the first week and also Billy Elliot. We will arrive in NY october the first.
Thanks once again.

"Superior Donuts" is a wonderful play, and will begin sometime in September. Written by TRacy Letts (playwright of "August: Osage County"). Saw this in Chicago - wonderful!

Check out the discounts at www.broadwaybox.com.
I've seen a show every day this trip and my favorite discounted show was South Pacific. If you are paying full price, consider seeing West Side Story and Wicked.

If you liked August: Osage County, you might enjoy next to normal. It's a musical about a mother's struggle with being bipolar, and the effects her mental illness has on her family. I found the show wrenching and incredibly moving. (discounted.)

The play God of Carnage is returning with its original cast intact. James Gandolfini, Marcia Gay Harden, Jeff Daniels, and Hope Davis are all wonderful. It won the Tony for Best New Play. (not discounted.)

The revival of Hair is the most fun I've had at a Broadway show. Ever. If you sit on the aisle, prepare for the truly phenomenal cast to be all over you. And if it's at all your thing, dance on stage at the end. You can then go home and tell people you sang and danced on a Broadway stage. (discounted)

Wolverine and James Bond (um, I mean Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig) are going to be in the play A Steady Rain beginning late September. No reviews on this yet, but I'd go if I could. (not discounted.)

I've just tried to purchase tickets to a Steady Rain. The only available seats are for a matinee on the day we arrive. We have a 1am arrival into NYC via LAX from Australia....... ahhhh don't know wether to book??? I guess it will get us moving and keep us up on that day.

God of Carnage is the best thing I saw all season. I thought it might be slightly discounted through Broadway Box. Although it's been around a while, I also loved South Pacific and I believe that is discounted. Note that this is on at Lincoln Center, so not in the theater district.
