New York

Will be in New York April 24 thru 26. Some good reasonable priced hotels in Manhatten Thanks

nytraveler Feb 14th, 2009 04:33 PM

First, how many of you are there?

Second, what do YOU mean by reasonable?

Third, do you need/want to be in any specific area?

(You might double check travelzoo and other discount sights to see what specials are being offered.)

Please come back and give us more information as suggested by nytraveler

I have booked hotels and tickets from www.travelzoo.com which is a great discount site.

Once you narrow your hotel down you can look at reviews on www.tripadvisor.com and of course ask back here.

There will 2 0f us. I would like to stay under $150 dollars a night.

Some where close to 200 Cabrini Blvd if this is possible.

200 Cabrini is in Washington Heights, at the northern tip of Manhattan. It is far from most tourist attractions and I don't think there are many major hotels there.

You can take the A train there, so you may want to get something in Upper West Side or Mid-town West.

nytraveler Feb 15th, 2009 05:14 PM

That is definitely not a tourist area and I'm not aware of any hotels near there. (It's a mixed area, some gentryfying, some still quite rough.)

You can find some B&Bs in Harlem - but it still won;t be that close to Washington Heights.

If you can give us a little more info as to why you would want to stay there, perhaps people can make suggestions.

As for $150 a night in NYC you will probably need to bid Priceline to get anything decent (after deducting tax that's a rate of only $130 - very low). But - before bidding for anything you ned to do a ot of research.

Really, if you give us more info people may be able to figure a sensible solution for you.

The reason I wanted stay near the Washington Heights area is we have relatives there we would spend one day with. Is it possible to take the subway there. Thank you for your help.

200 Cabrini is in the Castle Village complex which is in a nice area. The A train is the way to get there.

You can get there train from midtown or the Upper West Side.if you are only going once, don't worry about the location as it will be the same train , justa 15 minute longer trip

Thank You for the responses I appreciate it.

There is nothing in midtown Manhattan at $150 a night. I stayed at The Pod Hotel--teeny rooms and a shared bath. I believe it was about $160 for the one night I stayed. It is clean. Larger rooms for more than one person do have private baths, but you, of course, pay more. Very nice place even with the shared bath.

You may well be able to get something on Priceline, but you will have to do a lot of homework to understand how it works - since you are bidding blind - and pay if you like the hotel or not. Check betterbidding.com and biddingfortravel, com to see what is turning up in NYC then in your price range - and it will give you an idea of what youmight get for the money.

Also, check travelzoo, com to see if they have any specials for your dates.

Hotel prices have come down dramatically. You can stay in midtown at the Affinia Manhattan for $119/night plus tax in a studio suite with a discount from travelzoo.com
