New York - off broadway play, then out to Newark

We are heading to NYC in a few weeks and on our last day in the city, have tickets to play at Douglas Fairbanks theatre, between 9th and 10th on 42nd Street. Then want to get on bus from Port Authority over to Newark airport. Is there anywhere near there we can store our bags so we can pick them up quickly after plays gets out, rather than head back up to hotel at 48th and 8th to retrieve them?

OR, is there a good recommendation for hotel near the Port Authority that would be easier for us to stay there, leave our bags there, do our play, and then retrieve the bags before heading to the airport?

Thanks!

I'm trying to remember the name of the hotel that is literally across the street from the Douglas Fairbanks on 42, between 9th and 10th. It has often been recommended here as an excellent budget hotel. Of course, the Westin is directly opposite (diagonaly) from Port Authority, but not in the budget category.
Help someone?

There is a Travel Inn or Days Inn on 42nd between 10th & 11th. I think this must be the hotel Patrick is thinking of. Other possibilities: the Times Square Hilton on 42nd between 7th & 8th - closer to 8th and very near the Port Authority. More in the budget category is Hotel 41 on 41st St. and 7th Ave. It's relatively new -just opened with the past year or so. I don't know how the rooms are.
One other suggestion - if you eat near the theatre prior to the show, the restaurant might be willing to check bags and let you retrieve them afterwards, depending on size, number of bags and how large the coat check room is. Let me know if you need recommendations for nearby restaurants if you want to try this.

Will likely eat near the theatre before the show (we also have a matinee that day), and would like your recommendations - we enjoy Asian, Mexican, Italian cuisine. Daughter loves good sweet and sour chicken ...

We don't necessarily need a budget hotel, but availability for that particular weekend seems sparse.

Thanks.

Travel Inn, that's the one I was thinking of. You might do a search here as I think there have been a number of favorable comments on it. I agree that the Times Square Hilton would be very convenient, less than half a block to Port Authority. And again the Westin is right there. One of my favorite restaurants in the area is Marseille at the corner of 44th and 9th.

I would say that the top-quality restaurants in the vicinity of the Fairbanks are Marseille(which Patrick recommended) and Esca (seafood at 9th Ave & 43rd).
A couple other good places nearby: West Bank Cafe (on 42nd, near 9th, across from theatre)and Rachel's (on 9th, between 43rd & 44th). Both have sort of American/Continental menus - fish, chicken, salads, pasta, etc.
I don't think there are any noteworthy Chinese, Italian, or Mexican places that close to the theatre. There are some good Italian places further up Ninth Ave in the higher 40s.

Thanks for the recommendations - Esca sounds like something we might enjoy, but also West Bank and Rachel's. Thanks again! Looking forward to our visit (as always!).
