New Year's in Toronto-suggestions sought

I'll be in Toronto for what I hope is a spectacularly romantic New Year's Eve. We're staying at the Royal York, but I could use some restaurant suggestions for the whole week--French, seafood, or Japanese esp. but quiet and romantic atmosphere most important. Any other points of interest in Toronto, as well as New Year's Eve suggestions, would also be very welcome. Thanks!

Grew up in TO. Nathan Phillips Square (City Hall- about 15 min, walk from Royk) usually hosts a big outdoor celebration with bands, live TV coverage and other entertainment. It's fun, but dress warmly if it's cold.

There's a Japanese restaurant on Front St., east of the Royal York Hotel, across Bay Street on the north side. Can't remember the name of it. It is just outside BCE Place - had a nice lunch there. There's usually a First Night Celebration downtown on New Year's Eve - no alcohol but lots of entertainment. Have a great time!

I think the restaurant Tom is thinking about is
called Benihana - it's on Front W - on the corner.
Had a wonderful dinner there last year, chef's
entertain you while they cook your dinner right in
front of you. Have a good time.

No, it's not the Benihana. That's the one located in the Royal York, basement level. I'll try to get the name of the restaurant for you.

Andrea: There's another good restaurant at BCE Place called Marche. You're given a tray and a card when you go in, then you move from station to station for entrees, salad, drinks, dessert, etc. and your card is stamped at each station. When you leave, show your card to the cashier and pay. I had an Indonesian dish called bam goreng there: chicken with big noodles. Also go see "Phantom of the Opera " at Pantages Theatre.
