New Years in chicago

We have decided to take a last minute drive to Chicago for new years eve.
Most of the hotels around the downtown area is fully booked.
So I am looking at the O'Hare area...Which is better for hotel? the O'Hare or Midway area, in terms of getting into downtown.
We will have a car to drive into town.

Also, if we were to go downtown for New year's Eve,(maybe the Pier) would it be better for us to park the car at the hotel and take the train into downtown?
If so, what time does the train run until on NYE? How would parking and traffic be like during the day and the night of?

thanks

To be perfectly honest if I could not get a hotel downtown on New Years Eve - I would not come here. There is no way I would drive downtown on New Years Eve if I were not staying down here. Traffic is a nightmare and parking would be expensive and hard to find. Having said that if I were going to take a train downtown I would stay up near O'Hare. The following web site should help you with a schedule: http://www.transitchicago.com

Did you look for hotels in the Lincoln Park/Wrigleyville area or near north? You could easily catch a bus or the El for a penny on NYE and not worry about the car. There is a Days Inn on Diversy, not posh but would do the job. Search those 2 neighborhoods on expedia or hotels.com and some came up for NYE.

Have you looked at Travelocity.com?

I was just there and saw several hotels downtown with availability.

Good luck!

For the last two years my husband and I have gone to chicago for ny's eve. Both times I have gotten rooms on Priceline. Do your research and you should be able to get rooms no more than $70 per night. We spent last year at the Sheraton for $70 per night and the years before we stayed at the Westin for $60 per night. Both times we bellied up to the bar connected to the Westin (the grill?) and had a great time. We never had a problem finding a place to enjoy dinner and were celebrating by 10:30pm.....go to biddingfortravel.com, do a little research and you should be able to get a great deal - Have Fun! We can't go this year due to the days of the week that the holiday's fall, but if we were able to, we'd do the same thing this year!
