New Year's Eve in Philadelphia

We are spending New Year's in Philadelphia and staying at the Sheraton Society Hill with two other couples. Are there any New Years Eve parties to recommend that aren't a fortune?

I hope if you go that you check out the Mummer's Day Parade. Apparently Philly decks out in costume and revels in the street. I have yet to go but am curious.

The Mummer's Day Parade has become so sanitized and "family oriented" that it's lost a lot of its real personality. I remember the old Mummer's Day Parades, which were amazing. Yes, practically everyone was drinking (even many of the cops), but it was still a good time, not the bland Disneyfied version out there today.

There is an excellent jazz club with fine dining that might have some interesting festivities: Zanzibar Blue
There is also a very neat little restaurant in the old section that is set up to look like New Orleans. Can't remember the name, but it "fit" the theme. Considering the beads and stuff they had around to look "mardi gras" like, I bet they have something fun for New Years!
Alan: I know you didn't ask, but I would have second thoughts about the Sheraton Society Hill. We were very disappointed with the hotel, you can do much better unless you got a very attractive price. If you do stay, ask for an exterior view, the atrium view is dark and unattractive. Check out the Sofitel in City Center, they usually have very attractive deals and it is a far far superior hotel.
