New year's eve in hawaii???

Hi,

we're 2 mid 20's couples looking to spend New year's eve in hawaii - any thoughts? Is it a happening place for New Year's eve or not quite? We like to party , drink, dance and enjoy the beaches..any feedback would help - our orginal destination was Miami, FL but due to some circumstances we aren't able to go there for New year's!!!

thanks!

I understand David Gest (yes, Liza Minelli's husband) is doing a big concert in Honolulu this year. Another thought is to try the Hyatt or even Zanzabar....

It's out of control. Due to religious traditions each home lights off thousands of firecrackers. It fills the air with sulfur so much that you can't drive. If you have asthma they even have safe houses. Above Dave and Buster's or at the Hilton you get a good view of beautiful fireworks. There are several concerts planned in Waikiki. Also downtown has a non-drinking blockparty.

We do the fireworks just for fun! You can't get the strings of firecrackers without a permit anymore, but you can buy all the fountains and novelty fireworks you like at all the supermarkets. We start at dark, then keep going till the finale at midnight. It is very smokey and noisy, but great fun (unless you have breathing problems). Waikiki usually has a bunch of concerts, but locals tend to have big casual parties at home. Its kind of scary driving thru residential neighborhoods due to the fireworks.

thank you for the info all - do they have drinking block parties?? Like in Vegas??

So you guys think it will be like a wild party or is it more sober? Would we be better off with Vegas or even Los Angeles??

thanks again for the responses! It just looked dead when I was doing the research not a whole lot of nightclubs..so wanted to hear from people out there!
