New Year's Eve Ideas...
Some friends and I are looking for something to do this coming New Year's Eve. A little bit of background info...
We're in our early/mid 30s and not really looking to do the dance club/night club thing. Most of us got over that ten years ago. Something involving a nice dinner or wine-tasting would be ideal. Live music would be a plus. We're open to traveling (in fact, looking forward to traveling). New England, the Northeast or Montreal or Toronto would be idea. Thanks! |

Hi,
I'm not sure if it's what you are looking for (it's not the dinner / wine tasting you mentioned) BUT, We did 'First Night' in Boston last year and it was THE best New Years we ever had!! In fact, I tried to work it out so that we could return this year but things just didn't pan out :(. At First Night you pay something like $15 each and you get a button which allows you in to everything - there are different things going on in different buildings all day util midnight. There's comedy, story telling, exhibitions and LOTS LOTS more. There's also a 'kiddies' fireworks at around 7pm (we thought this fireworks was awesome and we're definately adults!), there's a parade before the fireworks and then there's an 'adult' fireworks show at midnight over the water. There's also some fabulous Ice Sculptures and bands etc etc. It was definately the best set up for New Years I have seen! |
If I wanted a *really* nice dinner in New England area, I would get myself to the White Barn Inn in Kennebunkport.
www.whitebarninn.com Fabulous dinner and wine list. I would still recommend dinner there even if lodging is too expensive (then opt to stay at Maine Stay Inn or one of the B&Bs in town). |
I live in Toronto and in fact I'm trying to plan something for New Year as well!!
There isn't much going on here, in downtown Toronto, there will be fireworks but there will be tonssss of people and it would take 2 hours just to get in/ out of the crowd. For us that don't live downtown, it's always a challenge to enjoy that atmosphere in the city. Other than that, there are tons of nightclub (which you mentioned you are not interested). Also, which might be of interest to you, is that many nice restaurants will have new year's eve special dinner with toast, that would be a good way to count to the New Year. Go to clubzone.com and check out Toronto, it gives you a list of NYE events including the restaurants ones. Many of the details are not posted yet. There are many gorgeous dining ideas in Toronto! |
OnlyMeOirish-- by golly, your description makes ME want to head to Boston! And I live in Texas! hahahaha
I've got an A/A voucher I need to use in the next few months. And I've a friend in Boston, but never been there (other than changing planes there on my way back from Europe). You got me thinkin'!! :) Is there website for this gig??? Paula |
www.firstnight.org First Night is really awesome. You can get a dinner/button package (the buttons are your universal admission tickets that pin on your coat) at some hotels during that time, so ask. |
If you are really willing to travel the best place in the world for you would be Venice Italy for New Years!
