New Year's Celebration in Boston!
 

Hi! I'm traveling with my boyfriend to Boston for New Years, aside from the First Night Celebration, I would like to find a wonderfully quaint restaurant to spend the evening. Preferably downtown, on Newbury street?? Any suggestion are much appreciated!!!

Topping for you - perhaps you didn't get suggestions since many restaurants sell New Years packages and regular menu is not in effect. But I am sure someone else may be able to recommend.

Nicole, your idea is charming, but unfortunately all the appropriate places either (1) are already booked or (2) don't take reservations and on New Year's Eve will be mobbed with lines of hundreds of people who have the same idea as you. Boston's First Night draws hundreds of thousands of people. And, finally, Newbury Street is in the Back Bay, not Downtown. But have a great New Year's anyway!

The North End might be a quieter bet than Newbury St. Newbury St. is close to where the First Night stuff goes on.

No idea what you mean by "wonderfully quaint", but Jen is correct. Reservations are essential to avoid a long, long wait at places not taking reservations. Those that do will likely be booked solid by then, if they aren't already. For some ideas, you may want to check www.boston.citysearch.com or www.boston.com. When reserving, be sure to ask about the times and menu. At many places, there are two seatings. If you're in the first, you will not be able to keep the table all night. And, be aware of "special menus". Many restaurants will offer only a limited selection (at much higher than usual prices) or a prix fixe menu.

If you don't mind an early dinner, you still may be able to snag reservations. I recommend Euno in Boston's North End (little Italy). It is very qyaint. The room downstairs has a fireplace, the food is excellent, and the service is friendly and accomodating. You will also be close to Fanueil Hall.
