New Year in Boston

Any suggestions to where to be this New Year in Boston? Would like to find a hotel/retaurant/bar or club that has some sort of event organised.

it's a small inn so they wouldn't have an event organized but the newbury guest house is in a great location and a nice inn. there are a ton of bars in the area and a few larger hotels that may have events planned.

Boston has the original, huge First Night celebration that encompasses pretty much the entire downtown area.

Visit www.firstnight.org

New Years eve is a very big deal in Boston. You buy a First Night button to wear outside your coat, and get entrance to concerts, special restuarant deals, art exhibits, puppets, jugglers, films, you name it.

Checked the first night website, doesn't seem to be updated for '06. Am I looking to early?

It is probably too early to see specific venues, times, events. If you are not familiar with First Night it hosts various shows and a few participatory events thruout the downtown area on 12/31 - starting in the afternoon with stuff for kids. There are usually fireworks, MBTA is free after a certain time.

Two things to keep in mind - last year there were some financial issues that threatened to limit the event - I vaguely remember some solution being found, and it is hard to imagine the event would cease. Second, if you are staying at hotel, most have 2-3 night minimums for

(sorry - it posted itself before I was done) this time frame - I know because we have tried to book one night on several occasions. However, if there are hotel rooms available at last minute, you can often book for just New Years Eve.

Starting around Thanksgiving there are all sorts of ads for hotel and clubs that offer dinner, dancing, noise-maker packages - have never done this so can't recommend specific one.

Sorry, my bad. I checked the URL but didn't look at the site. Its not up yet, but with a google search you can get information about previous year's events, to get an idea.
