new Sheraton Keauhou Bay resort on Big Island?
Does anyone have any information on this resort that will be opening in October? Is it in a good location? Any other information would be appreciated!

I think it's going to be great! From what I've read it will have a super pool with slides and each person staying there gets one activity per day they can choose from (included in the room rate)... snorkeling tour, etc. Unfortunately I'm going to be there this month... it doesn't open until Oct. 1st... but I'm going to check it out while I'm there with plans to stay there they next time!!

We were on the Big Island last month, and passed by the resort while on a snorkel trip. Most of the major resorts on the BI are along the Kohala Coast, which gets very little rain throughout the year. The Kohala Coast is north of Kona, and it's also where most of the better restaurants are. The Keauhou area is south of Kona, and it's in more of a residential/commercial area. The hotel doesn't have any beach, so if a beach is important, skip it. All things considered, I think the Kohala resorts have the Sheraton beat in terms of overall property and location.

Very true, Gloria. And I'm sure lots of people would trade some of the grandeur of the Kohala resorts for much closer proximity to Kona -- traffic going south from KOA airport into Kona has become a real nightmare, especially in the late afternoon. Staying in Keauhou is a perfect way to avoid that problem.
As for beaches, Kahaluu is a 5 minute drive from the new hotel, although it ain't exactly Hapuna.
