New Rochelle to JFK
What would be the quickest and cheapest way to get from New Rochelle, NY to JFK the Wednesday evening before Thanksgiving and then from JFK to New Rochelle the Sunday evening after Thanksgiving?
Thanks a bunch! |
Okay, that was a really stupid question I just wrote as I left out a major part. It's for my daughter and she does not have a car, so she needs to go by train, subway, etc.
Thanks again! |
Pick one and only one: quick or cheap
As you're traveling on two of the worse days of the year to do so, your question is a toughie. You will face delays and traffic tie ups. Leave LOTS of extra time. Yet, this might be the best time to use public transportation. Take the Metro North train to NY (Grand Central) then take the MTA "A" train to JFK. They will be crowded. You might not catch the first train. But you won't have to pay while stuck in traffic. You COULD gamble on getting a NY Airport Service shuttle from GCT to JFK, which will at least be a fixed price, but still might take longer than usual. |
Some Connecticut Limo buses go via New Rochelle. Not speedy, but low hassle. You can't book online -- have to call them. (800.472.5466) They'll tell you how much time to allow, and where their pickup locations are.

Thanks for the info rb and sb! I will look into both suggestions.

The public transportation option is one hassle. It starts wth a Metro North Train to Gr Central Station. Then the shuttle train from Gr. Central to Times Square or the #7 train from GR. Central to Times Square. From Times Square station it is a long walk to 8th Avenue where you pick up an A train to get to JFK. Once at the JFK train station (Howard Beach) there is a shuttle bus to the terminal. Cost is $2 for the train/bus plus cost of ticket for MetRo North train. That trip has got to take at least 3 hours. The CT limo might be the answer
