"New" Restaurants in Williamsburg, VA
Three adults will be visiting Williamsburg in late March. We're frequent diners at the Williamsburg Inn's Regency Room, the historic taverns and the Trellis.
We'd like to consider some new restaurants this time around. Many thanks in advance for your suggestions. |
Fat Canary. Great food with a bright and open contemporary setting.
A welcome counterpoint to the to historic Williamsburg surroundings. |
Not sure when you dined at the Trellis but its under new ownership, definitely worth a return visit. The Blue Talon is one of our favorites, they actually bought The Trellis. Le Yaca if you like french food. Opus 9 in New Town.
Its hard to go wrong at any of these as well as the Fat Canary as Judy24 recommended.. |
The Trellis is very much improved under the new management. I ate there last week and it was excellent. I do wish they'd soften the decor a bit. The old garden room gets very echoey. The menu gives a nod to the Trellis history and it's modern southern flavors. Death by Chocolate is still available.
The Blue Talon is French bistro. It has a fun casual atmosphere. (The owners of Blue Talon and the Tellis are opening a third restaurant, a pub, in the old bank on DOG St.) Le Yaca offers wonderful, simple French food. On Thursday nights you can order spit-roasted lamb they've cooked on their open fire. Fat Canary is excellent but I'd encourage you to look at their menu first. Friends who like simple food or are "meat and potatoes" diners stay away. The current buzz is about Waypoint Grill on Rt 199 across from Kingsmill. The place is always busy. I had the scallops and shrimp which were amazing. This might be the place for you to try since the kitchen is run by the former chef at the Inn. You'll need to make a reservation at any of these places. |
Excellent suggestions! We've dined at Le Yaca several times and will return, but probably not this trip.
Fat Canary and Waypoint Grill are on the list. For the curious ... http://www.waypointgrill.com/ Thank you! |
Have a great trip, Gekko, and let us know your reviews of the places you try.
Welcome to the forum, mrwilliamsburg. |
The Cove Tavern is another new place that has great food. My husband and I actually did a review of them soon after they opened (http://www.eatplaywilliamsburg.com/2011/10/cove-tavern/) You've gotta try their Crab and Avocado Louis. Delicious!
