New Orleans Weather

What is the best season to visit New Orleans?

november_moon Apr 12th, 2011 02:33 PM

I like spring. Flowers are blooming, weather is warm but not too warm yet.

SusanCS Apr 12th, 2011 02:47 PM

Do NOT go in July, August or September. I agree with november - early spring or late fall are great! Summer can be so humid it's difficult to breathe.

SusanInToronto Apr 12th, 2011 04:27 PM

We're going next Wednesday and I'm crossing my fingers that we won't get rain and/or cold weather.

Grcxx3 Apr 13th, 2011 04:30 AM

mid-October to mid-November has always been my favorite time. Warm, but not hot. And there usually isn't much rain.

I go with Fal,also. Weather can be beautiful then.

roxanne207 Apr 15th, 2011 08:29 PM

Sorry, Fall. Too much wine.

May is my choice also - spring at it's best.

SusaninToronto - Have a great time. It looks like your weather will be picture perfect.

25 more days for us and it seems like time is dragggging!!

Midwinter is best IMHO. I have been in late Feb and in late Oct - and both times it was VERY humid and way too hot to be comfortable - highs well up in the 80s.

Any time of year is a good time in New Orleans! :-d

Sharon_Hassan May 27th, 2011 07:52 AM

How hot is it in New Orleans at the end of August typically folks?? Planning a trip! Cheers x

August is the worst month to visit NO.

It's a cliche but it's true: it's not the heat, it's the humidity! And I'm from there, and I am used to it. But it's hard to take if you are out in the sun all day.

cheryllj May 27th, 2011 08:36 AM

PS -- the last week of August and first week of September are also the absolute height of hurricane season (both Camille and Katrina came around Labor Day).

Not that I would be that worried about that, but it's the worst time of year to visit weatherwise, all around.

I've been in New Orleans twice in my life (and would love to go back) - once in May, when the weather was beautiful, and once in July, when it was the hottest I've ever been in my life (and I've been in Egypt in August). Summer is simply not a good time to visit NO.

lmz May 27th, 2011 09:45 AM

Don't go to NO in August! I live in Memphis where it gets pretty darn hot and humid and NO was miserable for me in the summertime.

Grcxx3 May 27th, 2011 10:50 AM

I was 9 months pregnant in August in New Orleans. Just made being miserable even worse! :)

november_moon May 27th, 2011 04:57 PM

I don't mind humid places but I wouldn't go in Aug either.

Sharon_Hassan May 29th, 2011 03:19 AM

Hi all, thanks for the feedback, going to postpone trip to late October instead now!

Many thanks!

Sharon x

best months are March, April, May, October, and November

bkluvsNola Jun 15th, 2011 12:21 PM

Hotter summer weather is offset by much cheaper hotels though. It's not uncommon for a hotel that is $500 a night during Mardi Gras to be $100 a night during the summer.

So if you do go during the summer, you can live it up at the Ritz or the Windsor Court for relatively cheap - that's a good tradeoff to me.
