New Orleans suite hotels

We are planning a five-day trip to New Orleans in April 2006. It'll be our first time there, and we'll take in some of the French Quarter Fest and a cemetery tour, visit the D Day Museum, walk the Garden District and the river front and other typical destinations. We are considering these suite hotels:

Amerihost Inn & Suites -- Canal St.
Country Inn & Suites -- Magazine St.
Drury Inn & Suites - Carondelt and Poydrow Sts.
French Quarter Suites – N. Rampart St.
Hampton Inn Hotels & Suites – St. Charles Ave.
La Quinta Inn & Suites Downtown -- Camp St.

Considering our plans, are any of these hotels more well located than the rest? We will use public transportation in NO and save plantation visits and Cajun country for the next phase of our vacation.

I'd also welcome opinions about any of these hotels -- or, for that matter, any suite hotels not listed. Thank you.

stayed at Amerihost last month. Good location - streetcar stop 1/2 block from front. Very nice continental breakfast. we got a very good price for our room with 3 double beds plus a small kitchen area

Location alone makes me cancel Amerihost and FQ Suites from your list.

I'd choose the new Country Inn or the La Quinta, both of which are in safe areas. The Drury gets good reviews but is a bit farther from the FQ and Hampton on St. Charles (assuming it's the Garden District one) is in a totally different area.
