New Orleans St. Charles Streetcar returns

The St. Charles Streetcars are now riding again, from Canal to the intersection of Napoleon and St. Charles. This is great news for New Orleans:

That's terrific news. I went this past Xmas, and while we took the #12 bus the same route, which was fine, there was something special about the streetcar when I took it pre-Katrina...

Hi,

We are visiting the US next year and NOLA is on our planning.
Around july 4th to be exact.

How is the city doing after Katrina these days?
I've been there in 1995 and had a wonderful time.

I know that the French Quarter and the market is restored and open again.
Are the swamptours up and running again?
And how about the area around NOLA?
I'm thinking about taking the highway 90 from Lafayette to Houma.

Greetings

Bert

Bart,
Glad to hear you are including New Orleans on your trip. Traveling to Lafayette is a great idea. Many things to see and do in "Cagun" country...plantations, Acadian Village, Avery Island,Jefferson Island, great food and people. So many people only do the French Quarter and there is so much more. Katrina damage is still very obvious but we are slowly coming back. Be sure and drive around, they even have a tour, and see the damage. Most things are up and running but people are still rebuilding. With our new govenor we are looking for things to improve greatly. It's a great state and New Orleans is a good city with good people, great food and many sites. It's not all drunks, and drugs and crime. I urge everyone to give us a chance...we are struggling to make a come back.

I was so happy to see this, too! It's definitely a sign of progress!

Bertorelli- sounds like you have a plan if you know to travel Hwy 90 but if you have questions, just ask. I live in Lafayette now, from Morgan City & lived in Thibodaux for 10 years so I've logged plenty of miles on Hwy 90! Check out www.ripvanwinklegardens.com. It's a quick stop off of the highway near New Iberia and a beautiful place to see.

We were there in June - stayed several nights in New Orleans, then rented a car and headed out to cajun country for a few more nights. It was a really great trip. I wrote a trip report - I will find it and top it for you.
