New Orleans - Rue Royal Inn
 

I am going to be staying at the Rue Royal Inn on Royal St. in the French Quarter. Anyone ever stay there? <BR>Also, has anyone been to the Gumbo Shop?

Debbie, <BR> <BR>I had lunch at The Gumbo Shop last March and plan to return during our visit this year. The food was very good, but not spectacular. There are better choices if you're looking for an ultimate New Orleans experience. The thing that impressed me the most was the service. I was traveling solo and stopped in during a busy lunch hour. The waitress was attentive, friendly and prompt without being overbearing. A big plus since I was trying to spend a bit of quiet time. <BR> <BR>I had the chicken and sausage gumbo. Good, filling basic food during a day of wandering the Quarter.

I have never stayed there, but I bet it would be interesting. The inn is over a popular bar in a trendy neighborhood. The Marigny is much more hip than the Quarter - not nearly as mainstream. Some people are put off by it - I guess b/c it's not over run with tourists - you'll definitely see more locals. Mr. B's has better gumbo than the Gumbo House.

If you are referring to the one at 1006 Royal, then I've been told it's really nice. It's not 5 star, but has great atmosphere and is in a good location. We will definately stay there the next time we go. I didn't care much for the Gumbo Shop. I liked Olde N'awlins Cookery and Ralph and Kacoo's better.

Brenda and I may have two different places in mind. What is the address? The one I have in mind is in the 1400 block, I think.

The Rue Royal is in the 1000 block. Meg is thinking of the Courtyards, I think. Rue Royal gets good reviews overall. The rooms are big although not deluxe. Very good value, especially considering location!
