New Orleans restaurants Sunday night
 

Can anyone recommend New Orleans restaurants open Sunday and/or Monday nights? I'm cruising the Fodor's reviews and many of the places I'm interested in seem to be closed on those nights. Appreciate any suggestions.

Most restaurants in NO are open on all nights. Although some may close one night a week you should have no problem finding an open restaurant.

I agree with Julie... Lots of fine places are open Sunday night... <BR> <BR>My top picks might include: Galatoires, many of the Brennan Restaurants: Mr. B's, Bacco, etc., Dooky Chase is always good(but cab it!)... and Ruth's Chris aged steaks can't be beat! <BR> <BR>The Gumbo shop is a good middle of the road choice (and what a great location, just off of Jackson Square)! And the Red Fish Grill is open Sunday. <BR> <BR>Lastly, I don't remember if Irene's is open on Sunday; if so you might see me in line there some time! If all else fails, just grab a Lucky Dog (only kidding!!!) <BR> <BR>Enjoy!

I have a related question for New Orleans experts. My husband, 6-year-old daughter and I are going to New Orleans in April. We have reservations at the Red Fish Grill, Mr. B's Bistro, NOLA and Praline Connection Gospel Brunch. On Saturday night, we're planning on going to Sid Mar's, Deanie's or Bruning's (they're all around the same area, right?) Which leaves Sunday (Palm Sunday) night - I'd like to go to an area we haven't explored much, walk around a little and drop into a restaurant. The areas which seem to have casual dining places are S. Carrollton/Maple St. in Uptown/University, Magazine St. in the Garden District or St. Charles St. in the Garden District. Any opinions as to where we should go? Not the French Quarter, but how about Faubourg Maurigny?

Reply to emmasmom: <BR> <BR> I wouldn't go to the Magazine St. area in garden district at night on Palm Sunday, I just don't think it has a lot of choices. Plus I don't feel safe walking around that area at night. <BR> <BR>Fauberg Marigny has "Feelings", I that's a good restaurant, nice atmosphere, good food, really cool old house. The area is building up and is kind of safe, but of course not as safe as French Quarter. <BR> <BR>In the Uptown/University area, I like to go to Louisiana Pizza Kitchen but it is casual. It is fairly bust and safe up there too. Also, you can get to it by Streetcar, that's always a fun thing to do. If you are Catholic, you can go to mass first at Holy Name church on Loyola's campus, then take the streetcar to the Pizza kitchen. <BR>Across from Pizza kitchen is the Camelia Grill, its a pretty famous sandwich shop; an O'henry's, a Japanese restaurant, and a Chinese restaurant. There is also a Haagan-Daz, a Cookie-Time, and Baskin and Robbins in the same little strip. I think this is the best idea for walking around and pigging-out. <BR> <BR>Hopefully, John and Meg can tell you more about the other areas.

Thanks very much for the info Julie! Louisiana Pizza Kitchen or Camellia Grill sounds great because supercasual is I guess what we'd be looking for after all the "real" restaurants.

You should look at Zagat's website for all info/reviews. I suggest Figaro Pizzaria in midtown for great pizza or something more sophisticated for the adults. They have a nice patio too. <BR>Deanies is not near anything, but the best seafood in town for a great value in casual dining.

Redfish, NOLA, Mr. B's (BBQ shrimp to die for!) and Praline Connection are all great choices. Feelings is an excellent selection. Cafe Marigny in the 1900 block of Royal might be an option for you, but I'm not sure if they're open on Sunday night. If you need a burger, check out Port of Call on the corner of Esplanade and Dauphine - I know you said not in the Quarter, but it's the place to go for a serious burger. I really don't know much about the Lakefront restaurants, but one of my best friends is a Jaeger's junkie. Mother's is a good place to go for po-boys on the corner of Tchopitoulas and Poydras (CBD/Warehouse district area). Lucy's on Tchoupitoulas in the Warehouse District has great margaritas and so-so Mexican. Superior Grill at 3636 St. Charles has really good Mexican and a great atmosphere (also good margarita.) <BR> <BR>Oh - if you're a dog person at all, on Palm Sunday at City Park, Chris Owens leads the Hounds in Hat Easter Bonnet Parade. It'll be a hoot!

Figaro's has a location uptown if you want to go there. It is just down the street behind Burger King, at 7900 Maple st. That is walking distance from streetcar. <BR> <BR>

One other place that I thought of - Jacques-Imos. I've never been but have heard raves about it from everyone. It's way uptown near the riverbend.

Thanks to everyone. I've added Figaro to our list - I assume it's pretty safe to walk around Carrollton/Maple St. at 6 or 7pm. I've also added Jaeger's to the Lake area list. And the Hounds Parade sounds fabulous! I assume I can find details at the City Park website or a New Orleans calendar site. Jacques-Imos was actually my original Sunday dinner idea, but they're closed on Sundays. And my friend swears by Port of Call, so it's on our lunch possibility list - if we can convince Emma to eat a burger.
