New Orleans Restaurant-pick two
Going to New Orleans w/husband-Dec.6-10th. Probably won't have too much time to eat everywhere. Would like to know from you = if you had to pick (2) nice restaurants-which would you choose? K-Pauls, Nola's, Comm. Palace? -- etc...This is our first time there and we're looking forward to it-any information would be helpful. Thank you...

Kpaul's and Uglescich's

Definitely Commander's Palace. K-Pauls is a little touristy, but we ate upstairs there a few years ago and it was fun watching the action in the kitchen. It's in no way a fine dining place, though. It's very casual. I had a really disappointing meal at Nola a few weeks ago, but others seem to like it a lot. Bayona has a top notch reputation as does the Grill Room at Windsor Court.

Definitely Commander's Palace!

Bayona would be no.1 on my list for either lunch or dinner. I prefer lunch on the weekdays to enjoy the courtyard. I would rate Susan Spicer as the top chef in the city. No. 2 would be Peristyle, but it is very difficult to get a reservations. Commanders Palace is in the top ten, along with Gautreau's, Brigsten's and Upperline, all of which are in the uptown area and serve more traditional New Orleans cooking. I haven't been to K-Paul's in years and I don't think much of NOLA, more form over substance.

I certainly wouldn't waste a meal on Uglescich's! I'm sure some find it a charming "local" experience, but I thought it was a dump, with overpriced and totally mediocre food. Definitely not a fondly remembered experience for me.

Delmonico's and Grill Room in the Windsor Court.

Just returned from Nawlins last nite. Had a great 4 days! Commanders Palace, Emerils,Christians...we had a wonderful experience a Emerils - great food wonderful service! Don't forget ACME'S very, very casual but will probably be your best meal for the least amount of money! Its a MUST when in the city.Forget the organized tours and spend your time walking - its a great city. Dooky Chase's.

#1 Peristyle <BR>#2 K. Paul's
|
K-Paul's is in fact very touristy - but it's really good cajun/creole food and I believe it's a must for first time visitors who want a taste of local cuisine. Bayona would be my second pick. Both of these are fairly pricey. If you want inexpensive or more casual dining, I'd recommend a visit to Mother's for a shrimp or debris poboy and a Lucky Dog in Jackson Square. Hope you have a great trip.
