New Orleans restaurant ahd things to do help

I'm coming to New Orleans for 2 nights and 3 days to spend some time with my son's bride-to-be. She is from Colorado and I'm from Kentucky so I've only met her once. I haven't been in New Orleans in years and could use some help choosing some good New Orleans restaurants that are reasonably priced, but good, somewhere locals enjoy going. We will have a car available to us. Also, if anyone has any good sights not to be missed, I sure would appreciate it. I want us to have a really good time getting to know each other. Thanks! Nancy

For restaurants we liked Cafe duMonde, Masperos and Acme Oyster House. You can stroll around Jackson Square, take a streetcar ride, ride a steamboat, maybe do a swamp and/or plantation tour, shop your little hearts out and wander around on Bourbon Street. A car isn't needed for any of these ventures (the swamp/plantation tours will pick you up at your hotel.) You won't run out of things to do! Have fun and good luck!

Hi,

I've been looking at tours and there are so many to choose from. Does anyone have any favorites? I'm interrested in Haunted tours and what are some of the prettiest plantations. I think we'll drive to one or two plantations and take a tour in town. Hope someone has some good suggestions. Thanks. Nancy

For those reading lots of threads, sorry to repeat myself as I just posted this on another thread. But, IMHO, Historic New Orleans Walking Tours (tourneworleans.com) does the best walking tours. We did their cemetery/voodoo one and their haunted one. Loved them both.

We went this past November. We did the following:

Aquarium, swamp tour, Pat O'Briens, Howl at the Moon piano bar, walked around the French Quarter, River Boat dinner cruise, went through the Mall, made a deposit at Harrahs Casino, walking haunted history tour around the French market, went to the Carasal (sp) bar.

We ate at the Acme Oyster house twice, Commander's Palace for Brunch, Muriels, the Bombay Club, Cafe Dumond and at Pat O'Briens.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn and they had a tour desk with many brochures and will help book a tour.

We loved The Gumbo Shop. As expected, their gumbo was very good, and so was everything else.
If you get a craving for friend seafood, go to Mike Anderson's on Bourbon Street and share their Fried Seafood Platter. The two of us could not finish it!
We also enjoyed Pat O'Brien's. The food was nothing special, but the hurricanes were spectacular!

My new husband and I had a blast at Mardi Gras on our honeymoon. Take the free ferry across the river to Algiers and then the free shuttle to Mardi Gras World. A great way to spend a few hours and have fun together.
