New Orleans question for BayouGal, Dan, or others

Good morning,

We are going to New Orleans this weekend and wonder if you know whether the shrimp vendors located along the road just after the West Bank Parkway ends are in operation this summer.

We live in West Alabama, and drive down to NO a few times a year. For several years we have been buying fresh shrimp from Ruth's, Who Dat?, or other sellers there.

We would love to bring back some of that delicious shrimp again. We used to drive out there as we were leaving New Orleans and they would pack the shrimp well in our ice chest for our four-hour trip home.

Anyway, if you know that they are open again, we will certainly make out pilgrimage for the shrimp!

Thank you,

Byrd

Byrd, to be honest, I don't know. Lots of road-side shrimp selling around though. I will check into this and get back to you ASAP.

Forgot to mention, that we go there a lot and have family in the area. We got some shrimp in June from the northshore area. I'll make a few phone calls.

Hey, Byrd! Great idea to get some shrimp while in town. I don't know about those places, either, but I will check, too. Dan will probably come along soon and enlighten us all. :)

PS
Please post a trip report after you return home.

Thanks everybody!
We are so looking forward to this weekend. We (three couples) have been semi-planning to go down sometime this summer, and Monday night we were all together and decided to go.

We booked rooms at the Provincial for a very good special rate of $85. We would have preferred the Royal Sonesta, but we like the Provincial, too, and have stayed there many times. The location is very good for us.

Now we just have the wonderful task of deciding where to eat!

Thank you for all your interest, and I hope we can get some shrimp.

I also would love a trip report. We spent an ideal three days there one year to the date before Katrina, and the state of things in the past year has been heavy on my heart. It would be great if tourism interest could get fanned a bit on boards like these.

Hi everybody,

Good news--we found a business card from Ruth's Seafood (in our "New Orleans file"), and called the number.

Ruth answered, and they are open seven days a week.

We are delighted, and told her we will see her this weekend!

Thank you to all who were interested in this question.

And I will write a trip report!

Byrd

Glad to hear it, Byrd. I had all my buddies on this one, but you beat us to the draw. Have a great trip!! :)

Sorry, Byrd, just saw this thread. Yeah, I buy shrimp at the west bank expressway place too. It's just a big collection of vendors and it's on the expressway as it goes from high-rise to surface lanes in Westwego.
