New orleans music for kids

We're flying in and out of New Orleans on the way to grandma's in Florida this year over Xmas break. My 5 year old loves music. Husband and I used to live in Chicago before we had kids and loved the blues/jazz. Instead of regular lullaby's, my 5 year old was rocked to sleep listening to the blues. When we told her that we'll be in New Orleans and there are really good musicians there, she got all excited and asked about going to listen. Are there good restaurants/cafes we could try our luck at getting some life music during day time hours? thanks.

Preservation Hall has the best Jazz, but I'm not sure if they let kids in.

Also, not much will be open on Christmas Day.

I don't know about live down there, but there are several volumes of Alligator Stomp Christmas music that would put her in the mood:

A favorite of mine for GREAT blues/jazz is the Blue Nile on Frenchmen Street --- just the other side of Esplanade from the French Quarter. There are several really good restaurants in this area, also. The music, however, is at night and probably much too late for a 5-year old. However, you can keep it in mind for the parents on this or a future visit.

FWIW, when we were there in 2001 with our kids, then 15 and 11, we had no problem taking them to Preservation Hall. And they both loved it. In fact, it was the 11 year old's favorite thing we did in New Orleans.

Definitely you can take kids to Preservation Hall, but it's only open in the evening. Opens at 7 or 8 pm, I think.

Several years ago, DH took our then-10yo son to the early show (8 pm) at the excellent jazz club, Snug Harbor. Snug Harbor does allow kids, but I think there's a note on their website about expecting kids to behave appropriately. DS loved the show, and cherishes the memories. He was the only kid there, and 10 yo is obviously a lot older than 5 yo, but it's another possibility.

We were in N.O. recently (without the kids), and I think there's a restaurant in the French Market that regularly has a band.
