New Orleans**le Richelieu hotel**
How is this place-anyone have rants/raves on it?

My husband and I are coming to NO in September for the first time, and overall this hotel seems like the best for our buck. We are driving, so we need somewhere with safe/free parking. Also a pool, since it will still be hot, and trying to stay under $150 per night.

If there are other hotels like this, PLEASE comment. Or websites that give the best rate online booking for NO hotels.

I am unfamiliar with NO, so the more advice the better :)

Melissa

Melissa, we recently enjoyed our stay at Le Richelieu. We found the location in the Quarter to be ideal, close enough to everything to walk, but far enough out of the revelry to be quiet and safe at night. We also liked the nearness to the Faubourg Marigny area, with some great jazz clubs and restaurants and less touristy than the FQ.

Le Riche is not a fancy hotel, but it has history, a nice courtyard with a pool, a friendly bartender, complete with barflies, and helpful front desk. The room was comfortable and clean, with some nice antique touches. I would definitely stay there again.

Melissa: I stayed at Le Richelieu two times and absolutely loved it. However, this was 7 years ago. I went to New Orleans for a convention, so I was traveling alone and really enjoyed it. The people at the front desk were very helpful and friendly. I would recommend it to anyone...and have!

The service for delirering breakfast was slow which was funny because we had a room right next to the kitchen. The room was somewhat tacky however the curtains were so thick and dark that when we shut them the room became quite pleasant. However since you are driving Le Richelieu might be great, but under any other curcumstances I would say to avoid this place.

Have stayed there twice, most recently last year. We had a suite both times with separate living room. The furnishings were old, but in good shape and clean. The staff was very helpful and friendly. As someone said above, the location is perfect - away from the noise and bedlam of the French Quarter but within walking distance of all the sights. The free parking is a plus not generally found elsewhere. The pool is small but a lot of people seemed to enjoy it. The food we had was good and the service was fine. However, we did not eat in our room as we enjoyed eating breakfast outside around the pool. The rest of our meals we ate elsewhere as one of the joys of N.O. is the food. Overall, for what you are paying, its a great place to stay in N.O.
